How to Use AI to Create Your Child’s Unique First Superhero or Princess Cartoon

A simple way for kids to lead the creative process, decide what humans do best, and use AI to bring their own hero to life

How to Use AI to Create Your Child’s Unique First Superhero or Princess Cartoon

It’s a great idea to let kids experience their first AI production. It’s much easier than you think.

This is a good practice of human-AI collaboration. It means learning how to decide what humans do and what AI does.

The new generation of humans needs the motivation to initiate something. They should not always wait for AI to initiate for them.

But once they initiate, they give AI room to finish the rest.

This is an important balance. The key is to know what AI is capable of doing. Then they know where to let go.”

Good timing in letting go makes the process much less heavy. It feels lighter and more fun.

That also means kids are more likely to initiate a new process next time. Because they have the impression that the process is easy.

Starting a cartoon can be very easy. It only takes 3 minutes.

Let’s go.

Step 1 Create a character

Go to ChatGPT, Gemini, or Midjourney to start a character first. Choose an image AI.

Usually, they offer free credits. No cost to try.

Make a prompt to describe the character. Keep it simple.

In my case, I use this prompt:

Design a new cartoon character and has to be very unique new-era superkid. Japanese manga style. Ears are very big, bigger than body.

Here is the character AI generates:

Kids can think about their own creation. This is where imagination starts.

Step 2 Remove the background

Next, remove the background for the character. The background makes later creation less accurate. It also makes AI more likely to hallucinate.

So, remove it first.

Simply use the same image creator to remove the background. ChatGPT works pretty well. I just use this command:

remove the background

It creates a new image with the background removed:

Step 3 Start the first animation

This step is much easier than you think.

Use one of your favorite video generation AI tools. For example: Google Veo, ChatGPT Sora, or Hailuo AI. Choose Image to Video mode.

I Use the following prompt:

This is Stan, the new superhero. First, Stan jumps into the sky toward the villain monster. Stan exchanges punches and kicks with the villain. Stan throws a final fist that blows up the monster. Sunshine returns to the city. Stan slowly lands. Everyone applauds.

Some video AI tools support storyboards. You can enter each scene separately. This makes the result clearer.

Make use of it.

Step 4 Create the next clip

Based on what is generated, create the second clip. It can follow or come before the first one.

AI is not perfect. That is okay. We work with what AI gives us. We adjust and continue. Based on the first clip, prompt the second clip. You can even make a clip that happens before the first one. And so on.

I used prompts four times. I put them together into a nearly 1-minute cartoon. It was done effortlessly.

Step 5 Put the clips together using your favourite video editor

Use any simple video editor. You can do this on a phone or a computer.

Put all the clips into one timeline. Arrange them in order. Then export the video.

Step 6 Final Result

The final result looks like this:
